The 2013 Strategy for Good Summit web conference hosted by Susan Hyatt and Core Thought February 25 – March 1, 2013 was a huge success. The Summit was designed to inspire companies to get more strategically involved in their communities and to demonstrate the many options businesses can choose from to give back and build business value at the same time. The Summit brought together business leaders committed to the social good and being active in their community through corporate social responsibility (CSR), high impact community engagement, and philanthropy.
National thought leaders shared their insights, experience, tips and strategies with other business leaders interested in strengthening their own give back efforts. The speakers represented a range of perspectives and approaches to giving back – from the Fortune 500 and experts in corporate social responsibility, cause marketing, employee volunteering, and grant making to independent, ‘cause committed’ companies whose business models have social good “baked into” their DNA.
One theme was that no business is too small to make a difference – there are many ways to give that draw on a company’s unique skills and resources – it’s not just about dollars. For example, Barefoot Wine, once small is now the number one wine brand in the U.S. because of its great product AND its commitment to the social good. The founders grew the company through a unique approach to worthy cause marketing – not traditional advertising.
